The Neverborn

Zoraida, the Hag

The old hag of the Bayou knows well the truth behind Malifaux;s greatest mysteries. For her Fate is a weapon to be wielded against those who would bring harm to Malifaux. She is present where destiny dictates. Her manipulations of people and events so subtle not even the slightest ripple of her influence remains once the wheels are set in motion. Her reputation as a fortune teller leads young men and women to brave the Bayou's dangers in search of her counsel. The answers she gives them reshape their lives, assuming they survive the encounter. Many never return to the City. Instead they remain by her side, enthralled by her magic forever.

The creatures of the Bayou both worship and fear her in equal measures. When she calls they heed her summons and provide her whatever service she requires. When forced into a confrontation she uses Silurid, Gremlins, and other weak-willed creatures as fodder as she traps her foes in a web woven from the strands of Fate. When her enemies feel a prickling down their spines they know her gaze is upon them - watching... and waiting.

Overview

Zoraida's strength do not come from directly confronting her opponents in combat, but instead from her ability to weaken them through Spells like Bewitch and Hex which prevent them from using key abilities they possess. She is also able to turn enemy Crewmembers against their own Crews with the Obey Spell. When threatened she is able to transform into a raven and escape with an accelerated movement speed. Zoraida can select Minions from across the Factions provided their Willpower is low enough. This allows her to negate an enemy's key strengths in advance of her overwhelming numbers.

Starting Zoraida

The best place to start collecting a Zoraida Crew is with The Hag's Puppets which should give you enough models to play a small game. If you want to expand on this Zoraida can hire a wide range of models as she has access to most of the Neverborn range and any model with a low willpower in other factions. Below are a few suggestions, but what you choose is up to you.

  • Voodoo Doll

Not purchased at the start of the game, but created by Zoraida during the game, the Voodoo doll allows Zoraida to connect to an enemy model making it easier for her to control it.

  • Stitched Together

The Stitched Together are dolls made from hessian bags and stuffed with evil. They can throw up fog to protect your crew and gamble with the enemy to steal cards or cause damage.

  • Wicked Doll

Wicked Dolls can also be created by Zoraida during the game, they are small, spiteful and able to poison the enemy. They also can return to Zoraida to help her out.
