Karl Von Schill not a man to be taken lightly. After a brilliant military career Earthside Von Schill came to Malifaux and offered his mercenary services to the Guild. One less-than-agreeable meeting with the Governor General later Von Schill resigned his contract with the Guild. He elected to remain in Malifaux, realizing the potential a new world had to offer a man with his particular talents, and began offering his services to the highest bidder, even the Guild (although rumors suggest he charges the Guild more than other employers for the same services).
Under his orders, Von Schill's men located and procured a trove of ancient artifacts in the Quarantine Zone. He wanted the headquarters for his Freikorps to be as far from the Guild's prying eyes as possible and be equipped with the resources the arcane arm of his command would need to be a competitive force in the City. The headquarters, which his men have nicknamed "The Hole", allows Von Schill to engage in his own exploration and salvage of the ruined City. Whether hired by someone else's Scrip to fight or plundering Malifaux's ancient history, Von Schill's second grand career is proving far more lucrative than his first, a boon he intents on perpetuating as long as he breathes.
Von Schill and his Freikorps are an effective Crew. Their Freikorps Armor negates damage from area effects, and their weaponry is state-of-the-art in comparison to the standard weapons many other Crews bring to a fight. Von Schill is a brutal opponent, able to stand toe-to-toe with stronger opponents, inflicting plenty of damage with both his Clockwork Seeker and Hunting Knife and their associated Triggers. His military prowess comes into play as he leads his Freikorps with abilities such as Hard-Ass and Leader. He is even able to fly over the fight and reach targets protected by intervening models using his armor's Augmented Jump. Players interested in an all around good leader should give Von Schill a second glance.
The best place to start collecting a Von Schill Crew is with the Freikorps Box Set which should give you enough models to play a small game. If you want to expand on this Von Schill can hire most Mercenaries. Below are a few suggestions, but what you choose is up to you.
Taelor gives you a heavy melee hitter, something Von Schill's crew lacks, she is tough and has a big hammer that can make a quite a mess of spirits.
Johan is similar to Taelor, but a bit cheaper to hire. Also has a magic hammer, so can do some serious damage. Either use along side Taelor or as a cheaper option.
Before Hamelin was devoured by a Tyrant entity he was just a rat catcher, but a rat catcher with lots of nice little tricks. He makes a nice addition to Von Schill's crew giving you more board control and disruption abilities.
