Sonnia

Most individuals only see Sonnia Criid's commitment to the eradication of the Arcanist threat as a single-minded dedication to the Guild and all it stands for in Malifaux. While Criid's loyalty is absolute, it is not to the Guild per se, but to the pursuit and mastery of magic. She sees the Guild's theories and procedures as the last gasps of a dying art. With the Breach's reopening she has discovered vast repositories of mystical knowledge which point to mastery of Soulstones as the truest arcane art Malifaux can offer her. She hopes to perfect her abilities with the rare mineral and use what she knows to eliminate the Arcanists from Malifaux.

Armed with her considerable arcane talents, Criid hunts the back alleys and warehouses of the City in search of the revolutionaries hidden within her Guild's City. Illegal practitioners of magic are subject to harsh penalties under Guild law, especially with each illicit spell being cast by potential Arcanist agents. Many say Criid's methods are too draconian for even the Guild, but they get the one thing the Guild requires of her to continue her investigations - results.

Overview

Enemy models that rely on Spells should beware when confronting Sonnia Criid. Not only is she competent with blade and pistol, but her Talents and Spells work directly against models with a high Casting. She is also able to protect herself and those near her from potential harm with her Advanced Counterspell ability. Sonnia's spells are offensive in nature. Spells like Flame Burst and Violation of Magic inflict horrible damage on any who would stand in her way while her Inferno Spell, once cast, is even more deadly after she has been eliminated from an Encounter.

Starting Sonnia

The best place to start collecting a Sonnia Crew is with The Witch Hunters which should give you enough models to play a small game. If you want to expand on this Sonnia can hire most models in the Guild range. Below are a few suggestions, but what you choose is up to you.

  • Purifying Flame

The Purifying Flame is a totem which is very capable at casting spells allowing you to get off an extra Flame Burst or Wall each turn.

  • Guardian

The Guardian is a construct created by the Guild, it excels at protecting it's allies from damage. This can be very useful for Sonnia who is not the toughest of people.

  • Watcher

The Watcher is another Guild construct. It flies above the battlefield picking out the enemy and making it easier for Sonnia to rain down fiery death on them.

  • Nino Ortega

A member of the infamous Ortega family who specialises in giving ranged support.

The Witch Hunters set comes with

Who Are the Ortegas?

Who exactly lives in Latigo, the Ortega compound outside the City? Where did these "Neverborn Hunters" come from, and what credentials do they possess that the Guild has granted them carte blanche to wage a secret war against the Neverborn in our names? Elex Brentmoore's Editorial inside.

Blind Justice

Once again the citizens of Malifaux can rest easy thanks to the dedicated men and women of the Death Marshals. Lady Justice and her able-bodied men have thwarted another Resurrectionist scheme before it could spill terror and violence onto our relatively peaceful streets.

Guild Fights the "Grafter" Menace

"Grafters," or individuals illegally combining human body parts with Construct mechanisms, are the latest group to be targeted by the Guild's Elite Divisions. Its newest Division, the Flesh-Construct Grafting Illegality Division - or Grafting Division as it is known as unofficially - is relentlessly pursuing these scofflaws under the direction of its commander, C. Hoffman.
