The Arcanists

Rasputina

Rasputina came to Malifaux unwillingly. Convicted of a brutal crime her sentence was hard labor in Malifaux, but was deferred to the saloon houses as an "entertainer" once she arrived. Impossible to tame, her original sentence was reinstated and she was put to work breaking rocks. How exactly she became connected to the Tyrant known as December is unclear; but it is quite possible the Tyrant was drawn to her frozen heart and unbreakable will. The perfect vessel for its cold, unfeeling power. Whatever their agreement, Rasputina was granted command of winter's might by the Tyrant and used her new powers to escape Guild custody.

Pursued by the Guild, Rasputina found safety in the Arcanists' welcoming arms. In exchange for access to Soulstones, Rasputina has agreed to lend her considerable talents to their cause.

Her independent streak prevents her from completely trusting or throwing in with the Arcanists. Instead, she has heeded December's call to the mountains north of the City, amassing a following of Its cannibalistic worshippers. It is her ambition to lead the Cult and slaughter everyone who has ever wronged her. The dispassionate independence that first attracted December now prevents It from completely consuming her spirit, creating a perpetual tug-of-war between the pair. It is a struggle that Rasputina fervently believes she will win.

Overview

Rasputina excels at spellcasting. She has multiple offensive Spells as well as a spell to augment her allies and provide protection from ranged attacks. With her Ice Mirror Ability she can remain out of harm's way, casting December's Curse and Biting Chill through other friendly models. In addition, she increases a player's Control Hand by one thanks to Arcane Resevoir, making it even easier for her to successfully cast Spell after Spell during a Turn.

Starting Rasputina

The best place to start collecting a Rasputina Crew is with the Cult of December which should give you enough models to play a small game. If you want to expand on this Rasputina can hire a wide range of models as she has access to most of the Arcanist range. Below are a few suggestions, but what you choose is up to you.

  • Wendigo

The Wendigo is a vicious little thing and as a totem can also cast Rasputina's spells. However if you want sheer casting power you could also have a look at the Essence of Power.

  • Silent One

The Silent Ones are the priests of the cult of December, they have a variety of useful offensive and defensive spells.

  • December Acolyte

December Acolytes are scouts they can sneak behind enemy lines and are skilled with the use of a harpoon gun.

  • Snow Storm

Snow Storm is a powerful spirit, it can add mobility to Rasputina's crew as well as being able to create Ice Pillars.

  • Hoarcat Pride

Small packs of feral cats that can swarm over the enemy and consume them when fielded in numbers.

  • Sabertooth Cerberus

The Cerberus is a vicious three headed cat that lives in the wastelands of Malifaux. They are fast moving and great for taking objectives.

Arcanist Threat Growing

Arcanist attacks continue despite the Guild's best efforts to bring the revolutionaries to heel. Originally isolated to the Guild's resources these attacks have broadened in scope to encompass the businesses of Malifaux citizens as well.

New Play Begins Run At Star Theater

The Star Theater opened its new play, The Gregarious Guardsman, to a packed house last night. Despite the many catcalls and boos from a normally respectful audience the actors performed admirably. The play blends song, dance, comedy, magic acts, and more than one slight jab at the Governor General into a ribald treat.
