Lucius

Lucius Mattheson is truly the "power behind the throne" in Malifaux. Serving as the Governor General's Secretary, Lucius gladly implements his employer's plans, but with small ‘adjustments' of his own. The Governor General values Lucius' counsel, his ear drinking in the poison which leaks from behind the Secretary's ornate face mask.

Because he serves as the filter through which the most critical information passes to the Governor General, Lucius is able to keep his manipulations secret. His public façade is one of the dutiful servant, constantly implementing and enforcing his master's will within the City.

As a master of guile, Lucius oversees the Guild's Elite Divisions in the City. His subtle suggestions direct their clandestine operations along some path he has yet to reveal to anyone. Many follow his directives unaware that their orders are his, while a select few are unwaveringly loyal to him and his secret agenda. To Lucius they are all pawns to be maneuvered into positions of power, allowing him to exert even more control over Malifaux and its inhabitants.

Overview

As a Henchman, Lucius is able to lead his own Crew as well as be hired into traditional Master-led Crews. He is a slippery opponent, able to increase his Defense stat while close to friendly models as well as give models targeting him a Fate modifier penalty to their attacks. His Trigger negates the offensive capabilities of models wishing to attack him later in the Turn sequence, giving him additional defenses in close combat. Lucius' Hidden Sniper Spell provides him the means to target models that wish to remain out of his view, while his other Talents help augment friendly models and increase their survivability during an Encounter.

Starting Lucius

The best place to start collecting a Lucius Crew is with The Elite Division Box Set which should give you enough models to play a small game. If you want to expand on this Lucius he can hire any Elite Division member or any Guardsman. Below are a few suggestions, but what you choose is up to you.

  • Drill Sergeant

The Drill Sergeant acts as a totem for Lucius. It is also very good at getting the most out of other guardsmen near it.

  • Guild Guard

The Guild Guard act as the Guild's enforcers, armed with a pistol and a sword they are good in combat, but they are also able to cordon off areas of the board.

  • Guild Hounds

These attck dogs are trained in the Guild kennels, they are fast and able to bury the corpses and scrap certain masters rely on.

  • Guild Austringer

The Austringer can use his trained raptor to hunt down the enemy and attack them while he remains save behind cover.
